Did Nothing Change Last Night?

Despite a contest about change, nothing seems to be changing. In fact, one of the oldest candidates ... won.

In the most pregnant and coveted nomination in a long, long time, Barack and Michelle continue to successfully scale the mountain. (photo: Damon Winter)

WINNERS AND LOSERS - A RACE OF INCHES AND A PHOTO FINESSE

Claire McCaskill shines brightly, bringing home Missoura for Obama. There is something about her that I just like a whole lot. (Her ads for Obama here have been the most compelling of the lot, while Clinton had to get millage out of the NYT endorsement).

Obama wins in the Red states while McCain wins in the Blue. What a fascinating national showdown that would be.

The Kennedys - is the shine off that apple, going forward? No doubt they've had a positive impact, in particular and in general, but so far, it appears not to be enough - the Clinton name is that strong, apparently.

Oprah didn't move the vote in the ways needed. Will Chuck Norris deliver Texas next?

John "Integrity" McCain will pander at CPAC, most horribly. To get the rest to shut up, he will likely promise the Hewitts of the world their list of judges, which maybe what that wing of the Reagan Devolution is hankering after the most.
As Clinton runs the table with the mega-states, Michigan, Florida, California, New York, one has to wonder if the rush to move up primaries was a mistake, since we don't get to have "real" contests in more states, contests that go beyond just name recognition (i.e. votes you don't have to really "work" for ...).

OLD PEOPLE FIGHT-IT-OUT AND 'GOODBYE TO ALL THAT' IS ON HOLD IN FAVOR OF ANOTHER WAR REFERENDUM

GOP looks set to end up with their most electable candidate based on polling, McCain. If it is McCain v. Clinton, in Florida and elsewhere, it looks like old people and women will slug it out, in spades, while dejected newcomers sit home, with their candidates still in line.

McCain's victory ensures that the upcoming general will be all about National Security (and the sooner it gets there, the sooner Dobson, et. al., will fade). Bush is cooperating, sticking a massive increase in political-football, military spending in front of the Democratic Congress to reject ...

UGLY

There seem to be traces of racism in the numbers, if you care to read them that way.

Question of the day: will the contest get ugly again, a bit, or will an effective winner on the GOP create a lightening rod for that kind of thing?

It's too late for gay people to register in Ohio for the upcoming primary, by just two days.

Texas.

John "Integrity" McCain will pander at CPAC, most horribly. To get the rest to shut up, he will likely promise the Hewitts of the world their list of judges, which maybe what that wing of the Reagan Devolution is hankering after the most.

McCain and pearls. "I won her fair and square!" (What? Is that really more nasty than his position - and his party's position - about me, I ask?)
