Andrew Sullivan Goes into PANIC Mode on Hillary

AS runs around like Chicken Little, putting up the politics of FEAR over Hillary Clinton.

EMBRACING "HOPE" BY THREATENING THE DEMS IF THEY DON'T - HUH?

It takes two to polarize! ...

Put another way, "Hope" needs a partner and is not conditional. Only people looking for change on the cheap demand others to change, before they do it themselves.

With every stroke of the pen, AS reveals that there is no partner for Hope. Too bad.
According to AS, the Clinton's have a "bunkered" mentality.

Those with honesty and a long memory, remember that Bill Clinton did NOT come to Washington with a bunker mentality. He literally changed the song of the Democratic party to "Don't Stop Thinking About Tomorrow".

Along the way, they started to get stuffed, first by the "small government conservatives", i.e. AS lookalikes, and then by their own party (Senator Sam Nunn comes to mind, on a number of issues).

NO PARTNER FOR 'HOPE'

ANDREW SULLIVAN, NOT WORTHY OF THE HOPE THAT OBAMA OFFERS?

No where is the "bargain" that the small government conservatives are forcing the rest of us to swallow more clear in his paint of Hillary as "polarizing". ARRRRRG!

It takes two to polarize! Ignoring that Hillary might be polarizing for the right reasons, let the small government conservatives show that they can drop their own partisanship and give her a chance. What's this schoolyard nonsense that the Dems have to do it first? Put another way, "Hope" needs a partner and is not conditional. Only people looking for change on the cheap demand others to change, before they do it themselves.

Put that way, with every stroke of the pen, AS reveals that there is truly no partner for Hope. Too bad.

THE REST - ANDREW SULLIVAN WRESTLES WITH HIS 'BOOGEY MAN'

  • Hillary is a "machine" and 'we' need ANGER (the product of FEAR, not Hope) to defeat her.
  • Hillary is a "core" narcissist
  • Hillary accepts endorsements ("cards") from unions, without earning them (even as Obama gets the Nevada Culinary Workers endorsement).
  • Hillary is polarizing and causing depression
  • Hillary represents cheap identity politics
  • Hillary's strategies are "infuriating" [?] and will benefit McCain [who isn't?]
  • Hillary's "temperament" isn't sufficient to being President [Nixon's was? Reagan's?]
  • Update: Hillary's husband is a real lout - "tacky" and without "class" [yeah, a real Billy Carter ... if you are born with a bogus "small-government conservative" playbook in your hands, it's hard to escape it?]

Missing the Forest for the Trees

We fight two "wars" and start-up a whole new government arm called "Homeland Security" (not to mention an increase in the size of the standing army and hopes for a civilian readiness corps, adjunct to the National Guard).

Wouldn't we expect revenues would have to increase, accordingly, other things being equal?

Therefore, lauding flat revenues might be missing the forest for the trees.

Lazy Conservatives

In a rush of nostalgic animosity, the visceral distate for Hillary Rodham that I cultivated during the '90s

It's one thing to say that a person rubs you the wrong way or that you like the person, but don't like their hairstyling. It's quite another to offer up, continuously, a political analysis based on "visceral distaste" of someone.

It really behooves those who have such feelings to rationalize them, before they end up with the wrong kinds of labels on their heads.

I'm not talking about "cootie vibes", which might have been a moment of truth if you believe such a reaction has some universality to it among GOPers, but about the need to take the time to actually give voice to whatever rationality is behind such opinions or feelings.

There are just too many people trying to build dossiers with the intent to smear political opponents in the "freak show" and engage in personal destruction poltics, without having the sanguine middle wallow too long in irrationalities, however innocuous.
