BRING THE TROOPS HOME
It's the biggest difference between the two candidates and it couldn't be more important.
-AS. writing about long-term bases in Iraq
humm... I could get behind a "bring the troops home" campaign.
God knows, the GOP base isn't going to pay for them to stay or pay a "catch-up" tax, for having skipped out on the cost issue for so many years.
Nevertheless, I'll suggest that the biggest difference between the two candidates on this issue should be the work that Bush-Cheney have left undone, related to their own (and Rumsfeld's) mis-conceptualization of the war on terror.
POINT OF ELUCIDATION
Chris Matthews asked his panel tonight whether a terrorist strike before the election would help McCain. The panel was unanimous that it would. They could be very right, and the reason why is perhaps the most important or biggest dividing line.
THE DEVOLUTIONARY BUSH ERA
We have made scant progress in codifying an appropriate national response to the threat of global insurgency and international terrorism.
The Bush-era philosophy of running around almost hellion-like to "capture or kill" has not yet been defeated or deflated (replaced by a Democratic vision). Certainly not in the ... less educated counties in the nation, shall we say. Obama is trying with line about "talking tough"... (Hillary didn't try at all, that I remember).
To trust McCain to make the transition would be a grave error. He's adopted the position that continuous military engagement is required, or so it seems. (From what other nation have you heard that?)
DOES "I WAS WRONG" MAKE ONE A STRAIGHT-SHOOTER OR JUST 'WRONG'?
A devastating takedown, in many ways (this is not today's video with Matt Lauer):
