Military Bases in Iraq

IS IRAQ THE NEW TAIWAN, VIS-A-VIS IRAN?

I'm indifferent to slightly positive.

Iraq is not Saudi Arabia.

The need to contain Iran is ... ongoing, if not "permanent". From that angle, the proposition seems to be standard interest-politics. As an Iraqi, you have to see how a long-term relationship with America could be manipulated to be very, very valuable ... Once the Iraqis figure out how to make money from and use the influence of the US to their own advantage, they will have cracked the nut, yes? Everyone else does ... almost everyone else.

The notion that Western military power is always malign is something that has to be confronted.

The risks? "Incidents" and hostages. The general political risks - are as hard to judge as is the evolution and guarantee of "democracy" inside Iraq, yes?
