RIP Jim McKay ... herald of the heroes of sport.
I'll never forget Jim McKay ... after Cronkite, perhaps the most trusted or recognized name in broadcasting for a long while, apart from the distinctive sound of Howard Cosell.
Looking at the old reels, it makes one remember when "live by satellite" was such a *huge* deal, with long sound and time delays and extra-choppy images.
With the John Williams music that is somehow associated with McKay's Olympic broadcasting (in my mind):
