Thought for the Day

As we contemplate the degeneracy of polygamist cults in America, would someone let the Maggie Gallaghers of the world know that there is no principle that is stopping polygamy in practice, as she worries aloud, deceptively or otherwise, to her faithful that gay marriage might somehow prevent stopping polygamy in principle.

The American polygamists apparently avoid the legal tangles of bigamy laws by not getting civil marriages ...

It's interesting how much Stanley Kurtz has written about Sweeden and Scandinavia. All the time he was turning a blind eye to the well-known polygamist sects, operating in full view and with knowledge of law enforcement officials in at three or four states ...

To allow gay marriage, no one would have to throw out the entire public policy framework that forbids bigamy. Even if you thought it would, you'd still apparently have the burden of show that it would matter, much, since plural marriage (for men) can and does go on regardless of the current policy framework ...
