This surpasses or matches anything I recall Kerry ever having said that, in turn, prompted Bob Dole to excuse the Swiftboats by saying that Kerry had made his service central to his campaign:
"I take a backseat to no one in my affection, respect and devotion to veterans," McCain said. "And I will not accept from Senator Obama, who did not feel it was his responsibility to serve our country in uniform, any lectures on my regard for those who did." -Reuters
So, when is the press going to question McCain on his full views of Vietnam? Or are they too busy going to his ranchero for bbq ...
Anyone else think that John McCain III "chose" to go into the military? How about how seriously he took that once he was there, pulling low marks? How about his wildly inauthentic tale about how his religious conviction relates/related to his military service ... How many moms get/got a personal phone call from the Secretary of the Navy (or his chief aide, I don't recall which), after their son went MIA?
Update: As for the honest disagreement, it might have had some traction if McCain hadn't impugned Obama in the same way he complained he was.
Even then, the issue points out how McCain has been campaigning both sides of the issue, potentially, as "friend of the military" from 40,000 feet but without highlighting to voters what exactly that means to him.
