Punch Drunk Conservatism

A PATTERN OF AB-USING YOUNG, ENERGETIC CONSERVATIVE HOPEFULS

People remarked, during the hearings on DOJ firings, that Rove-Bush sent to the Hill young, "beautiful" Republicans, who it is hard to question fiercely, since it just looks like you are beating up on earnest young Conservatives, just off the wide-eyed pages of yaf.org, Liberty University, or something.

Yet, the pattern of choosing inert or compliant underlings appears to be a pattern, from the feckless Colin Powell, to the amazingly promoted Ricardo Sanchez, and including the DOJ:

The reason such a relatively low-level DOJ official was able to issue such influential and extraordinary opinions was because he was working directly with, and at the behest of, the two most important legal officials in the administration

WHITE COLLAR CRIMINALS?

Meanwhile, the case for criminality among those who enabled Gonzales-Bush is not completely out of the question, apparently.

I'm not sure that covers everything, however. Saying that al-qa'ida are not covered by Geneva (Geneva III, as I recall) is not the same as greenlight for detainee abuse or 'enhanced interrogation'.

Still, the mere selection of GITMO is a clear indication that Bush, et. al., were looking for a new legal approach. I think it is fair to hold them on the hook as to how well they examined the foundations for what they did, or whether they deliberately did slip-shod work or took advantage of 'the system' to get the conclusion(s) in action they wanted...
