When Brandon McInerney, age 14, shot Lawrence King point blank, did he know right from wrong?
27 Groups protective of gay rights are now saying that he ought not to be charged as an adult:
We refuse to let our sense of outrage blind us to the fact that the suspect is only 14 years old. [reported by Box Turtle]
I'd like to see the investigators' report before making a conclusion.
It was pre-meditated (threats were issued) - at least I haven't read anything that suggests a crime of passion.
When he obtained a gun and carried it to school, he knew it was wrong. There are no indications that the "climate of intolerance and fear" was permissive enough to sanction death.
I'm not sure I'd be so quick to blur the lines of individual responsibility, yet, in this case.
