FOX Throws 'Fair and Balanced' Under the Bus

FOX SKIPS ANTI-GAY ROTC, GIVES MEN-WITH-GRIPE UNFETTERED "NEWS"TIME

It's always an odd day out when 'fair and balanced' characterize FOX Opinion Channel.

What they must believe is their "successful" format, because they use it over-and-over, is to find some conservative guy with a gripe and put them on T.V., without any countervailing opinion or without much by way of critical questioning. Just in case your liminal quotient doesn't skyrocket during their segment, they put up a little box on the screen that says, "Outrage!".

Presumably, such little, on-screen reminders are just in case your brain starts to engage independently, before your Pavlovian hormonal responses, conditioned by FOX, kick in. To play to their viewers' anti-intellectual bias, they kick in with a "Poison Ivy" box on the screen, too, a stab at Columbia University.

AHMADI-NEJAD COMES TO CAMPUS

Today, the FOX editors let some reporter do an entire segment about the Iranian President's visit to Columbia University, in which he repeats incessantly that Columbia University will not allow ROTC on campus. No one is presented to explain why ROTC's anti-gay policies are not accepted or that ROTC would probably be allowed on campus if the military dropped its biased DADT policy.

Only in the studio, in the very last seconds, does the reporter, Douglas, get asked by one of the "anchors" why ROTC is not allowed; and he throws in a five-second reply, that the answer is related to the "homosexual issue" and that many other campuses are the same, but notes that Iran kills homosexuals.

People can raise what eyebrows they might about inviting Ahmadinejad to campus as a standalone issue. But, to call it an "Outrage!" that ROTC isn't allowed a permanent place on campus but Ahmadinejad is allowed a visit is about as unbalanced as spandex on casual Friday ...
