The Long View

Mark Stein checks in with the long view. Asking "are we there yet?" about the piling on to get past Bush-43, he mocks, as follows:

They give us joke books: “Mitt Romney’s 101 Positions on Any Issue You Choose” (with pop-up hairstyles).

They give us crayons: Fill in the lines and make Rudy Giuliani look like Ronald Reagan.

Behind this, of course, is the "American Way", an extravaganza that includes massively expensive and long political campaigns that don't seem to bring us any better governance than those countries who call national elections and hold them in a matter of months...
