It's a minority view, but it seems from afar that what Musharaf is doing is clearing up *selected* opposition before elections (like those supporting the guy he ousted) and keep him in control of the situation.
Because those being cleared aren't exactly popular or populist (or respected, with the exception of the courts, which the jihadis don't like anyway), it's not clear that it will roil the country to the extent of our worst Islamo-nuclear fears.
We'll see, however, if so much can be pulled off without backfiring.
