Tuesday p.m. roundup

[notes on various AS posts ...]

GOP Royalty: I was so glad that Nancy Reagan's astrologer let her get out on the town a bit, and it was poetic that she eat a state dinner from the "Clinton china", I thought. Perhaps she had some time to encourage Laura Bush to take a stand on DADT.

Malkin Award Nominee: The fact that the Hoover Institute remains besotted of Dinesh D'Souza and Stanley Kurtz lowers what I can possibly think of them, and I always thought better of them than the Heritage Foundation, for sure.

The GOP Candidates and Islam: "Hezbollah, Hamas, and the Muslim Brotherhood don't want to kill democracy in the Middle East, they want to use democracy in the Middle East to legitimize their objectives. When are my fellow Republicans going to realize this?" This is a sizeable debate going on right now on how to take the democratic leanings of these groups. Zawahiri does not like democracy, except in the context of Islamic law and thinks partitipation in anything short of that is bowing to Western pressure. Apart from the Hamas, which has undemocratic goals - genocidal goals, maybe, the question of whether they truly believe in democracy or just in democracy as a means to an end is probably only knowable fully in reverse, after they have been defeated once or twice at the ballot box.

Gays and Hate Crimes: Kudos, as Andrew 'gets the numbers'. Keep getting them!

A Death in Nebraska: Capote wannabes, this might be your scoop.
