Homestyle Institutionalized Homophobia

EACS School officials allowed to run amok without their white sheets anti-lavender sheets or pitchers of hemlock tea to hand out.

Just checking in on that Indiana journalism teacher who was put on suspension after the student newspaper penned an opinion piece suggesting tolerance of homosexuals.

"We thought she had a pretty good chance of overturning the [school board]'s decision in arbitration, which would have taken about a year in which she wouldn't have been paid," Fenton [pro bono attorney] said. "A combination of that plus we lost all hope that we could convince the board that we could do anything because there's a level of animosity."
...
Fenton also said that Sorrell's settlement was also a career decision.

"They were threatening to take her job," Fenton said. "That's a death sentence. As a teacher with a record of alleged misconduct — what would you do? It would have probably been the end of her career." Fenton also said that part of the settlement requires Sorrell to apologize for her "insubordinate" actions over the past few months.

She will take a job at another school outside the district, it appears (conflicting reports on whether it is out or in), and not teach journalism for three years. AT has pics and some color. Being forced to read an apology looks like Galileo repudiating his 'heresy', but the actual statement appears less contrite than maybe the ditsy superintendent had hoped for.

Timeline of homophobic treachery (and background on Sorell, mother of a six year old). The national media appear to have taken notice on Tuesday via an AP story.

One can only imagine what the lesson is that the students have learned from all this.

However, no one from EACS has shown the school system does anything to protect gay and lesbian students from the bullying that leads many “out” students to drop out of school, as mentioned in the student’s article.

So, how do you estimate that the LGBT 'army' did on this?
