Can Democrats ever come up with a maximal bargaining position and media statement that isn't their compromise position?
I'd like to hear statements of the variety, "We'll compromise when the time comes, after debate, when the other side has shown responsibility of presenting and arguing for their ideas. But for now, we believe the country is best served by [xyz]
Is that so hard? It really doesn't prejudice the negotiations. Ronald Reagan was a master of it, of setting the terms of the debate, of pre-empting what was reasonable/acceptable.
Why do I have to listen to Democrats bargain away tax-code insights on TV, by indicating exactly what they will give up?
