Israel's Choice for Peace

The media is alight with "news" that Israel has been "attacked" and must defend herself.

In pictures (I mean, if the goal is to "liquidate" the Hamas, using ground forces, then how does an air-campaign that destroys the civic infrastructure of Gaza help?):

02 October 2008 - VOA NEWS

An Israeli military commander in charge of the West Bank has told an Israeli newspaper that Jewish settlers in the territory have increased attacks against Palestinians and Israeli forces.

Then, there is this absolutely bizarre quote that AS finds from Max Boot:

This is the definition of a quagmire, yet Israel has no choice but to keep doing what it's doing.

No choices? Too early to know? Only the outcome will tell us if the course of action was advisable?

Why does it take 500+ dead, before all the world's diplomats are rushing to the scene? How many trips has Sarkozy made? Why did Blair, during his talks in December and November in the West, not warn of an impending Israeli strike?

How long can we tolerate neo-conned Bush to mouth that the conflict will be over when Israel wins, which is the only way to interpret his statements about 'durable ceasefire' and so forth.

Sure, there is a time for war and a time for peace, but this operation ... what gives?
