By tapping experience, he is neutralizing anyone who might speak out against his policies. Seriously, with Panetta in the fold, all he has to do is offer blue-ribbon jobs to Arianna and Vanden Heuvel.
No one will be left except the ratty blogosophericals to say, "Hey, Mr. President, ummm...no, thanks."
In any case, re-hiring all the Clinton-era folks doesn't expand the talent pool, much, for the Democrats. Still, I suppose it is better than hiring Monica Goodlings to run the government, another of Bush's faith-based blunders.
