Because finding excuses to withhold a blessing may be a greater sin than find ways to confer one... :
There is no time like the present to push the message, to as many corners who will listen. It's like strategic advertising - you have to do it way in advance of "the event" (and persistently, regularly).
Who knows what "the event" will be. It might be the repeal of one of these most ugly constitutional amendments. It might be helping an Obama Administration, who are now publicly committed to ditching DOMA.
