"Terror" (political violence) has won a mini battle, as continual attacks on cell phone towers has caused the wireless companies to turn off the service at night. (I'm not sure the root of the Taliban grievance, but I did write that they were happy to bomb themselves back to the stone age, apparently.)
The battlefield continues to be hot, on almost all metrics. The 2008 Afghan plus-up troops arrived today (about half of them), reportedly.
One strategic development has been the central government asserting itself by arresting General Dostrum. Whether that dance plays out peacefully is being decided right now.
