43 Governors Oppose Bush Veto

In July, 43 Governors urged the Bush Administration to keep things moving forward with S-CHIP:

This blog hasn't had many kind word's for Senator Orrin Hatch's conservatism, but one truly gets the sense that he's interested in dealing with the problem(s) of children's health, even if it costs some money, not just pushing it aside.

There is no question that the Bill is a compromise, designed to meet Republican objections. For one, states have to meet threshold levels of enrollment before getting more money for certain things, if I understand it right. My quick scan is those thresholds look darn high, compared to what has been achieved to date, even in the states most active in getting information on available benefits out there...

Unlike the Immigration Bill, I'd have to say this one isn't bad legislation. So far, it looks like the lines may have been drawn in the right ways to make an 'o.k' compromise. Not that it is easy living with compromises ...
