John Aravosis is hot on the trail of what now looks like an approach, not a response to a question from a paid-for speech of hers that got dug up by the Obama campaign.
They do it because, if you win, no one remembers it, after a while (sad truth); and if you lose, no one remembers you, so it doesn't matter. (And yes, in fairness, the Clinton name-recognition does make them seem sort of zombie-like, so no need to be too harsh on AS about that).
THE RESPONSE
BO's comments are great, but he seems to have missed an opportunity to show he is competent to lead America on these issues, not just dismiss the speakers.
THE BIGGER PICTURE
As the frontrunner, it's critically important for him to make news of his own, not get pushed all over the field by these comments/attacks. One, quick reply and then let it go (same for his surrogates).
He should be out there giving the kind of policy speeches that a frontrunner can give. He can pick an issue, say healthcare or social security or job security or infrastructure improvement, and wonk out on it. (Bringing up healthcare would force a Clinton reply, bringing her back onto his playing field). This will build his level of engagement. If not that, he can mix it up a bit, do something else, like go to a Philly's ballgame or see the Flyers play. In PA, hitting some Churches is never a bad idea. His campaign could do something dramatic, like try out a whole new engagement format - take some risks. I could see a speech on local law enforcement needs. He can test the waters, foreshadow some themes that they are thinking about for the national campaign.
Heck, he could even make a trip to Florida (think about how that would rock HRC's world ...).
He looks tired. He should get some good sleep. We've made them earn it.
