Frank Pushes Forward With Flawed Underwriting Strategy

"ENDA-Lite" will go through Committee today

These compromises, they have a nasty way of becoming the status-quo - just look at how long DADT has outlasted any support for it
Barring much hoped for principled opposition from those who might abstain rather than vote for a flawed bill, Congressman Barney Frank will push forward with a half-loaf today in Committee, even though it is not Friday, when we usually bake half-loaves.

"These compromises, they have a way of becoming the status-quo - just look at how long DADT has outlasted any support for it," said the ghost of Bella Abzug. "If Italy can have a transgendered MP, why can't we get this measure done right, out of the gate? Failing to do so is not a shame, it's shameful."

If all "we" wanted to do was "win", we could have probably pressed "lesbian rights" years ago, and it might have passed, as there is *some* evidence that (a) the women's movement was more behind lesbians than any 'man's movement' ever was behind 'the sodomites' and (b) generally, people don't report themselves as threatened by lesbians as they are by gay men.

It really is about leaving some behind ....

Expect the funding support for transpeople to dry up.
Meanwhile, the heartless among us are already blaming those who would like to press for their rights in the legislative process as setting themselves back for years by asking. How twisted is that?

Update: Bill comes out of Committee without amendment 12:42 p.m. EST, day of a deep regret.

Update II:
The Washington Post puts a bogus header on top of their story today. It's not "some" versus "all". It really is about leaving some behind, to fend for themselves.

Expect the funding and support for transpeople to dry up.

The get-mine folks are not going to be sending checks in to the advocacy groups, once they've "got mine". The HRC is not going to shift its ENDA lobby budget over to transgender, undiminished, once it abets gay "citizens" winning the right to fire transsexuals - want to wager?
