The ability of the Democrats to function as an opposition party, let alone as a leadership party, is ... thin (cf. Hate Crimes is Dead for this session).
It's not that they aren't trying and doing a lot of the right things.
It's that they seem to not have coherent strategies to pursue and the discipline to pursue them.
Anyway, I never thought the spineless Congress would muster the strength to handle a veto on this item, anyway, if it DID pass, so I never gave it more than a 50% chance to get out of conference ...
So far, on gay issues, the 110th is the jerk-you-around Congress, n'est pas?
A stand-alone bill will never get past the Senate, I don't think. So, prayers for that "strategy" are gravely mistaken.
