Where the boys are:
The Summit [New Jersey] students around the piano epitomized a trend showing up in high school theaters all over: Nine of the 10 were boys, as are 24 of the Summit production’s 56 cast members.
"We wouldn’t have chosen this show if we hadn’t known we had a lot of these talented guys," said Summit High School theater arts director Anne Poyner, looking over a roomful of males that included a star soccer player, the student council president and two former football players.
"We’ve definitely had an increase in boys. ... Hopefully, it’s because there’s not as much of a stigma against doing musical theater," she said. "I just think it’s more accepted in general to be part of a performing arts group."
