Does Acute Pain Force One to Think in Absolutes?

... to establish a future paradigm of overwhelming response to Hamas provocations

- Victor Davis Hanson, writing at HotAir Almighty, a.k.a. The National Review

You probably won't find that kind of thing written in any kind of counter-insurgency "textbook".

It's really stunning, stunningly superficial (to the extent that Morning Joe doesn't already own that phrase -- his producers let Joe repeat it this week three times, at least, so that his listeners will always associate him with that phrase, now ...).

When the Jewish settlers - the illegal ones - fire at the Palestinians in their olive groves, what is the appropriate "overwhelming" response?

The whole debate over 'just war' seems interesting but ... well, can't we just say operation 'Cast Lead' wasn't the first, best option? Otherwise, it's going to get really full of 'drama', too quickly.
